Foster Brooks was a not a drunk, but he played one on TV. His numerous appearances on The Dean Martin Roasts solidified his place in comedy history. His was the most realistic drunk routine in history, next to W.C. Fields, who I wager to say may actually have been a little sloshed.

My name isn’t really Willy Ray but I want to share a true story with the fans of Foster Brooks. Foster Brooks had a automatic water softner at his home in Encino, CA. The unit required salt to be added to it every so many days. I delivered the salt. Foster Brooks had a dog in the back yard and since the delivery time was in the mornings Mr. Brooks would come out in his boxer shorts and t shirt to hold onto the dog. We spoke as I made the four trips around to the unit, he was a down to earth person. On this particular delivery his wife also came out into the back yard, wearing a short bath robe. As I came through the gate with a bag of salt on my shoulder and Mr. Brooks holding onto the dog by it’s collar, in his boxer shorts, his wife bent over to pick up something and her bare ass stared me in the face. Foster Brooks saw the expression on my face and turned to see what I was looking at, he too saw his wife bent over and then turned back to me and just shrugged his sholders and smiled, like "no big deal". I smiled and continued in making my delivery. I noticed the license plate on his car in the drive way and it read "Lush 1"

My sister-in-law used to be a telephone operator. One day, she said, Foster Brooks called and happened to get her. He gave her a few minutes of his routine, pretending to need a number or something. She said he was really funny.

Foster is the greatest. I got to meet him personally one time at the Christy Lane Theatre in Branson Missouri. His comedy was the best and I shall miss him always.

Foster Brooks was one of the BEST comedians of all time. Among greats like Jonathan Winters and Red Skeleton - Foster had an incredible impact on me. Guys like him are no more. Thanks for the laughs and memories!! Hip-Hip-Hurry!! P.S. I feel sorry for future generations that will never know his genius.
