As the cantankerous Aunt Esther, she was always a thorn in the side of Redd Foxx's character Fred Sanford on the hit 70's show, Sanford and Son. Since the demise of the show, she has had a successful career as an actress and stand-up comedian.

YES ... There is a script for a BIG SCREEN Re-Make of Sanford and Son circulating in Hollywood -- Names attached to it so far: Morgan Freeman as Fred - Will Smith as Lamont - Wanda Sykes as Aunt Ester - Chris Rock as Rolo - Ice Cube as Officer Smitty and Ashton Kutcher as Hoppy - and David Alan Grier as Grady -- I work for Warner Bros. and this has been a big news item around here for the past 3 months. Whether or not a studio picks it up as is or revised .. it will get made by Summer 2007

IMO ...One of the funniest ladies of all time. Just the sound of her voice was enough to crack me up! Thanks for the hours of fun. Truly one of the ORIGINAL "Queens of Comedy." Thanks also to RuPaul for helping some of us (re)discover her talent. Ronnie Bruno (Dallas, Tx. 2005)

I recently heard a blurb about a silver screeen remake of Sanford & Son with Dave Chapelle and Bernie Mack portraying S&S. Can anyone else verify?

I can only add my heartfelt gratitude to Ms. Page for her comedic GEEEENEEEUS (CAN I GET AN AMEN?) as Aunt Esther. I was 7 when I first saw her playing that role. I was watching other comedies, themselves now classics, as well as the obligatory cartoons (some of them classics in their own right also) which would make me smile at their jokes. But at that age, I really didn’t laugh out loud at things on TV, only at things that happened "live" so to speak, meaning in the same room as me. But when Aunt Esther went at it, I remember curling up in that big, big comfy chair (ah to be that small again) and holding my sides and turning what I’m sure was a dark shade of purple. Was I laughing out loud? NO!!! I couldn’t make a noise, because I couldn’t even breathe! I was literally choking with laughter. I remember my sides and my lungs actually hurt afterwards. And I remember that only she did that for me as a 7 and then 8 year old boy. And I love her for it. And I bless her for it.

Lawanda page was a true, comedy original. She was a true queen of comedy before Monique and those other bitches came on the scene. Her character, Aunt Esther never failed to make me double up with laughter when she’d shout lines like "SODOM AND GOMMORRAH!" "WATCH IT SUCKA!" or "OH GLORY!" We will never see her kind again.

I have been a Fan of La Wanda for 25 years. I can’t believe no one has mentioned this yet: She is the DIRTIEST comic I have ever heard. She’d make Richard Pryor or Redd Fox blush.

I would love to have La Wanda’s picture on my wall; she has always been my favorite lady in T.V. and I would like to know how to find a poster of her. No one will ever be any funnier or talented as she was; I want a poster to remember her. Please e-mail me if you know where I can purchase one. Thanks!
